Tennis: Nadal set up warnings for his rivals
Rafael Nadal has fired an ominous warning that he is ready to reclaim his French Open crown from Roger Federer after picking up a record-equaling sixth consecutive Monte Carlo Masters.
It was his first title since last May's Rome Masters. But not only that, the way that he reached the final was impressive. He let only 14 games in five matches, beating Ferrero, Ferrer and Verdasco in his way to the final. He has now won 54 successive matches on clay in the month of April, with six titles in Monte Carlo and five in Barcelona in that time.
Nadal is the only player to win six successive titles in the same tournament since tennis turned professional in 1968. The 23-year-old is level with top-ranked Roger Federer on 16 Masters titles, one behind Andre Agassi's record.
Nadal has been warning Roger Federer that he would take back his French Open crown from him. The French Open, the second grand slam tournament of the tennis season, begins in Paris on May 24th.
"For sure, this year is really special for me. One of the most special because I have had a little bit of a hard time in the last year.” – said Nadal, who needs to put in a lot of work to reach last year’s level.
It will be one of the most anticipated French Open’s in the last couple of years. Good luck and bet smart.
