Europa League 2010 Final: Atletico Madrid v Fulham (vid)
The first European Cup final is less than 24 hours away! Fulham and Atletico travelled to Hamburg, and are ready for the most important game of the season.
This is a unique chance for Fulham! They have never had a taste of European Cup final despite the fact that a number of Fulham people have had previews experience. Coach Roy Hodgson took Inter Milan to the final of the Uefa Cup (what is now called Europea league) in 1997, captain Danny Murphy won it with Liverpool in 2001 and goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer featured in Middlesbrough's defeat in the 2006 final. This is a unique moment in the English club’s 131-year history. Good news for Hodgson, who has Bobby Zamora and Damien Duff back to his disposal! "Both players trained yesterday and that was very positive, hopefully they will train this evening. My hope is that they will be available tomorrow," said Hodgson to BBC.
What is more, Paul Konchesky , Brede Hangeland, John Pantsil, Bjorn Helge Riise and Aaron Hughes participated as normal at HSH Nordbank Arena last Tuesday night’s training session. All players were sidelined (except John Pantsil and Bjorn Helge Riise) from last weekend’s premiership game so that they can rest and overcome their minor injuries.
In the same way, the Madrilenians gave some rest to Sergio Agüero, Diego Forlán, Raúl García, Simão, Paulo Assunção, Luis Perea and David de Gea last Saturday. Atletico coach, Quique Sánchez Flores, will have all seven players at his disposal in his attempt to go back to Madrid with his first European title. Undoubtedly, Atletico have much more experienced players. The club’s history is much more European orientated since they have won the title once (back in 1962) but have also reached the final twice! What is more, they have also played in the Champions League final in 1974 (all in all, they have 16 participations in Champions League and 8 in the Europa league/UEFA Cup).
We should not forget that this is a final and despite the fact that the odds favour Atletico, Fulham are capable of making history! Let’s not forget that Fulham kicked Hamburg out of the competition (something that really hurt since the final is held in Hamburg’s ground), Wolfsburg, Juventus and Shakhtar Donetsk! Therefore, I dare say that practically, there is no favourite tonight… I am sure that Fulham have travelled to Germany for more than just the experience. They have a solid team and they will not give up easily. Currently, the odds on Fulham are at 3.50 which are worth the risk but perhaps wait 10-15 minutes of play-time and if the away win reaches 4.00 then go for it on live betting. Otherwise, Over 2.5 goals sounds good to me too! If a goal is scored within the first half, then we will see plenty more after it!
Suggestions:
- Follow the game in-play and bet on the away win when it reaches 4.00 at Bet365. Anything lower than that is too risky.
- Great odds on the Over 2.5 goals by Bet365. Currently offered at 2.25!
