Sportinglife's Nick Hext thinks Holland can secure another narrow World Cup win when they face Uruguay in the first semi-final in Cape Town on Tuesday night.

The World Cup is now down to its final four teams after a sensational quarter-final stage saw Brazil, Ghana, Argentina and Paraguay leave South Africa.

Holland face Uruguay in the opening semi-final with the Dutch buoyant after a superb fightback from 1-0 down at half-time saw them knock favourites Brazil out of the tournament.

Wesley Sneijder's double secured the victory and there is no doubt that the Inter Milan playmaker, along with wing wizard Arjen Robben, will need to be at the top of his game if Oranje to secure a spot in the final.

It's been good and bad news for Holland during the build-up to this game with Joris Mathijsen and Robin van Persie declared fit, while Gregory van der Wiel and Nigel de Jong will have to miss out through suspension.

The loss of the banned duo could be a big blow to the Dutch with questions marks surrounding the qualities of their potential replacements, Khalid Boulahrouz and Demy De Zeeuw.

Holland have plenty of momentum but there are reasons not to get too carried away by their displays so far as Brazil's defensive horror show would have allowed any side in the last eight the chance to progress.

They are worthy of plenty of respect but are still a side built on hard work and defensive strength so expect to see those qualities to the fore in this match.

Uruguay have selection issues of their own with Nicolas Lodeiro, Jorge Fucile and, most crucially, Luis Suarez all suspended.

The potential loss to injury of captain and defensive lynchpin Diego Lugano would also provide a massive blow for Oscar Tabarez's men.

Plenty has been written and said about the way Uruguay reached the semi-finals but, despite Suarez's 'Hand of God' and the penalty shoot-out success that followed, it shouldn't be forgotten that they produced a very disappointing display against Ghana.

Along with strike parter Suarez, only Diego Forlan has really shone in the Uruguay side and the pressure will be firmly on the Atletico Madrid forward to help his nation move one step further.

Holland are rightly favourites at 1.61 to win the match but they should be made to work for the victory and a one-goal Dutch success looks like the likely outcome.

Bert van Marwijk's men have won four of their five games at this World Cup by only a one-goal margin (against Japan, Cameroon, Slovakia and Brazil) so the 5.10 for a 1-0 win and 8.50 for a 2-1 win look worth an interest.

Suggested bets:

  • 1pt Holland to win 1-0 at 5.10
  • 1pt Holland to win 2-1 at 8.50
