Formula 1: Horner predicts McLaren row

Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner feels one incident is all it will take for the "love in" between Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button to fall apart.

The McLaren duo have so far developed a solid relationship in the wake of Button's arrival to the team, despite many suggesting his move was a disaster waiting to happen.

Other than one tense moment when they went wheel to wheel during the Turkish Grand Prix just a few laps after Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber had collided with one another, there has been harmony.

The British pair have often this season been forced to defend their position, while McLaren have of late issued several video virals highlighting how well they work together.

One saw them assemble one of their own cars virtually from scratch; another saw them take a peek into the McLaren 'garage' that houses the team's cars over the years.

The latest has them playing a giant Scalextric, with the circuit a scale model of the reconfigured Silverstone that hosts the British Grand Prix this weekend.

It could be "smoke and mirrors" as described by Webber, with Horner believing something will happen at some stage that will throw a spanner in the works.

"Anybody who thinks Lewis and Jenson aren't competitive and won't push each other to the limit are sadly mistaken," said Horner.

"They're competitive guys, they're the current and former world champions, and I don't think they (McLaren) have a number one or number two driver.

"I'm sure Jenson didn't sign a contract to be a number two driver there.

"They haven't actually raced each other head to head. The only time they did that appeared to be in Istanbul, and they got pretty close to each other then.

"It's inevitable in a competitive sport they will be pushing each other, and perhaps won't be having so much of a love in when that does happen.

"It will only take one small incident for things to flare up between the McLaren drivers, I'm sure.

"It will be interesting to see when they do race wheel to wheel again what the outcome will be."

After the furore that surrounded his drivers following the debacle in Istanbul, Horner is adamant he is now running a tighter ship.

Webber claimed his relationship with Vettel remains "pretty good," although the Australian also made clear it is hardly "beautiful, fuzzy and warm" given they are both fighting for the title.

Assessing his team as a whole, Horner added: "We are working very closely together now. The drivers have learned from it, as have the team.

"I can't guarantee, but I'm pretty confident we won't see an incident like that again with our drivers, whereas I couldn't guarantee it won't happen with some of our opponents.

"I say confident because I think they realise they wouldn't push each other so hard. They would give each other a bit more room."
