Sebastian Vettel was left purring with delight after claiming his fourth successive pole position as he hailed his car "wonderful" and "a pleasure to drive".

It was no wonder as Vettel had just annihilated the opposition in qualifying for Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix, including Red Bull Racing team-mate Mark Webber.

There was a hair's breadth between the duo at the end of Q2, but come the conclusion to the top-10 shoot-out, Vettel blew everybody away.

After posting a time of one minute 18.773secs, four tenths of a second faster than Webber and with Ferrari's Fernando Alonso an eternity away in Formula One terms as he was 1.2secs adrift, there is every chance of a new lap record tomorrow.

That was set six years ago by Michael Schumacher with a 1:19.071, but Vettel has to get his car round the first corner if he has any hope of ending a wretched run that has seen him win just once this season from his six previous poles.

If he does not, it will be another race that will have slipped through his fingers because as Alonso remarked afterwards Red Bull have a car here that is "untouchable".

It is all in Vettel's hands because right now the RB6 is arguably the best it has been all season.

"I said to the boys over the radio 'this is your moment, you have built me this wonderful car which is a pleasure to drive'," said Vettel.

"I'm happy again to be on pole. Being on pole means a lot for us, for the team, for myself.

"We've been there a couple of times this year, and I'm confident we've a good chance to win.

"But this was a very good day for us. All weekend here we have felt very comfortable, from the first practice session onwards.

"Hopefully we will have a good start tomorrow, which is the main challenge, and then we should have a great race."

One of Vettel's downfalls this season has been his starts, as was witnessed just six days ago in the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim when he tried to cut across Alonso, only to allow the Spaniard and his Ferrari team-mate Felipe Massa past.

Asked as to how he will approach tomorrow's start he replied: "I will go straight.

"After that, this circuit is quite tricky. It's not easy to get around here."

As far as Webber is concerned the start will likely be as lively as it gets as he is not anticipating too much action to follow for the remaining 70 laps given how difficult it is to overtake.

Webber, who admitted he simply was not quick enough compared to his team-mate in qualifying, said: "I could've done better, but didn't. I deserve to be second and not first.

"So it's going to be an interesting start, and then after that we know with these regulations the race can be interesting in terms of trying to stay awake.

"So let's see how the start goes and then after after we will try to stay awake."

It will be Red Bull's sixth all-front row start of the season, one that is not too much of a surprise, although Alonso was effectively left open mouthed by his time deficit to Vettel.

Following his controversial win in Germany on Sunday, the 29-year-old will be more than happy just to be on the podium tomorrow.

"There is a big gap between Red Bull and ourselves which is quite a surprise, no doubt," said Alonso.

"Six days ago we won the race in Hockenheim and we had the quickest car. Six days later we are 1.2 seconds behind, so it is a surprise.

"They have dominated the weekend, have been untouchable, but I hope we can make it a difficult race for them because so far they have had it too easy.

"Seeing how the weekend has gone so far, winning the race is a dream, but we have to be realistic because there are two cars quicker than us, so I will be happy to be on the podium."

Alonso has Massa right behind him, with championship leader Lewis Hamilton a fine fifth in a McLaren lacking in pace compared to the Red Bulls and Ferraris, and with team-mate Jenson Button 11th.

"I struggled, couldn't find the grip, so it wasn't a great quali session," said Button.

"It's tough starting that far back, but we were never going to qualify on the front two rows here. I will just have to do all I can from where I am."
