English Npower League Two Season 2010-11 Preview
There have been plenty of interesting deals in League Two this summer with Billy Kee arriving as the man who Torquay hope will help them challenge for promotion.
The striker has moved to Plainmoor after he was released by Leicester following a long-term loan at Accrington in the bottom tier of the Football League. He bagged nine goals during his stay at the Crown Ground but had to battle for a first-team spot with Michael Symes and Bobby Grant, both of whom are now playing at new clubs after joining Bournemouth and Scunthorpe respectively this summer. There will still be competition for places at Plainmoor with Chris Zebroski, Elliot Benyon and Martin Gritton all hoping to bag a spot in the Gulls' first XI but there are plenty of reasons to expect a good season from Kee. His pre-season form has been very impressive with a five-goal haul in the 8-0 victory against Tiverton making plenty of headlines and manager Paul Buckle certainly seems to have plenty of faith in his new recruit. He described the 19-year-old as a "natural goalscorer" after that win and the forward has already impressed Northern Ireland boss Nigel Worthington with a call to the senior squad last season. Bet365 offer 15.00 for the youngster to top the goalscoring charts and that looks worth an each-way interest with the stage set for the striker to shine. Jon Paul-Pittman, at 34.00 with Bet365, is our second pick in this market and he is another man who has enjoyed a strong pre-season. A four-minute hat-trick during Wycombe's 5-1 victory over a Chelsea XI has proved that the 23-year-old is in fantastic form and he can make that count during the early stages of the campaign. Big things were expected from the livewire forward when he made the switch to Adams Park from Crawley in 2009 and, although he hasn't always been consistent, there have been enough flashes of quality to worry League Two defences. He bagged 10 goals as the Chairboys tumbled out of League One last season and his pace and quality should ensure that he reaches at least double figures during the new campaign. Emile Sinclair is our final tip for top goalscorer and we are hoping that he can turn plenty of promise into goals during the new campaign. The burly striker joined Macclesfield in the 2009 January transfer window and so far he has only sporadically shown the form that brought him to the brink of the first-team at Nottingham Forest. The 22-year-old bagged seven goals last season as the Silkmen struggled at the wrong end of the table and can expert more chances this season with the signing of experienced winger Matt Hamshaw. A plethora of goals have arrived for Sinclair in pre-season so we will take a chance on the 67.00 with Bet365 in the hope that he can fulfil his potential at Moss Rose. Moving away from the top goalscorer market, William Hill's 1.57 for Burton to finish above Lincoln takes our fancy. The Brewers are entering their second season in the Football League and they could well follow the lead of Aldershot by impressing in their second season in League Two. Boss Paul Peschisolido is certainly confident of a strong campaign. "I think we should be challenging," he told BBC Radio Derby. "We'll set our sights on promotion. "We've assembled a very, good squad, with strength in depth, athleticism and quality all around the pitch. "I don't want to get too carried away but I'm delighted by the way it looks." Whether he gets carried away or not there are reasons for Brewers fans to be cheerful with new signings Darren Moore, Nathan Stanton and Adam Bolder set to provide a strong backbone to the first XI. Russell Penn and Greg Pearson will be better for their experiences as Burton finished 13th last season and, like Torquay; the stage is firmly set to challenge some of the division's big guns. Lincoln, on the other hand, could be set for another tough campaign after a poor run of four wins in 16 games at the end of last season saw them sucked close to the relegation zone. Chris Sutton has done his best to overhaul the Imps' squad but he isn't providing the same positive message that Peschisolido is in the run-up to the start of the new term. "There has to be realism at the club," he told the Lincolnshire Echo. "I can dream about getting certain players in, but I have said before, this is Lincoln City. "We did well to stay in the division under trying circumstances last season." Lincoln will hope to have enough quality to avoid a relegation dogfight but Burton's aspirations are to challenge at the other end of the table and that makes them worth supporting in this matchbet.
