Tottenham head into the second leg of their Champions League play-off clash with Young Boys on Wednesday night as hot favourites to reach the lucrative group stages having fought back from 3-0 down in Switzerland to trail by just one goal.

Spurs suffered a humiliating opening 28 minutes as they were ripped to shreds at the Stade de Suisse but although goals from Sebastien Bassong and Roman Pavlyuchenko put them in the box seat, they can't afford to be so slack defensively once again.

Indeed the Swiss side could and should have scored more on the controversial artificial pitch with Henri Bienvenu heading over a great chance to net his second of the game while Christian Schneuwly also went close on two occasions at 3-1 up.

And let's not forget that Young Boys shocked Fenerbahce in the previous round, winning 1-0 in Istanbul having drawn the first leg at home 2-2.

They took Spurs by surprise with their impressive attacking vibrancy, which culminated in goals from Senad Lulic, Bienvenu and Xavier Hochstrasser, although the hosts will surely be far more comfortable on the grass at White Hart Lane.

Predictably Harry Redknapp wasn't happy with the plastic pitch after the match but defender Michael Dawson refused to use it as an excuse for the defeat, instead saying: "We were slow out of the blocks."

Nevertheless Spurs' players won't be finding the bounces of the ball difficult to read on home soil and we can expect them to go for the jugular right from the whistle in a bid to wipe out the first-leg deficit as quickly as possible.

A 1-0 lead will force Young Boys, who might initially sit back, to try to get on the offensive due to the away-goals rule and even a 2-1 loss won't be good enough for the visitors so that's why we're backing another end-to-end high-scoring affair.

Given the clear gap in quality on paper - albeit not evident last week - Spurs should end up running away with this one in front of their own fans but at odds of .22 to win and 1.22 to qualify, we're more keen to focus on the goals markets.

Bet365 offer a tempting 2.20 about there being over 3.5 goals in this second leg and a rampant Tottenham, desperate to ensure all the hard work of last season doesn't go to waste, could easily manage this feat on their own.

They bagged two goals on an off day while playing on a difficult surface - so you'd think they can only improve from that.

On Saturday confidence was restored with a 2-1 triumph at Stoke to get their Premier League campaign up and running following the opening day 0-0 draw at home to Manchester City and if Gareth Bale can continue his sparkling form down the left, Young Boys could be in for a long night.

Spurs should have strikers Jermain Defoe, Robbie Keane and Pavyluchenko all available, as well as midfielder Giovani dos Santos after missing the game at Stoke, so we don't feel there's any reason to fear a shock.

PICK:

More than 3.5 goals in Spurs v Young Boys at 2.20 (at Bet365).
