English Npower League 2 Preview: Week 8
Stevenage have enjoyed a decent start to their debut season in the Football League with seven points from seven games putting them in mid-table and narrowly away from the drop zone.
Graham Westley's men have the quality to avoid a battle for survival but a second promotion in a row already looks to be a tough ask for the Hertfordshire outfit. Next up is a trip to Lincoln on Saturday. The Imps are level on points with Stevenage in the fledgling standings and boss Chris Sutton will be desperate for his men to pick up points and climb closer to the early pace-setters. Celtic loanee Ben Hutchinson already looks to be the pick of Sutton's squad and his two goals in three games provides hope that he can show his class during his season-long loan move to Sincil Bank. Stevenage will be wary of the former Middlesbrough youngster but they are confident after keeping their first clean sheet of the season in the 0-0 draw against Torquay last weekend. "I thought we defended very well and to keep a clean sheet is very pleasing," manager Westley said after the match. "I'm just looking at the positives really, we picked up a really good point and maybe it should have been three, but we've not been beaten at home and now we've got to push on from this result and try and keep picking up points because this is a tough league." Stevenage will be happy to add another point to their tally at the weekend and the table shows there isn't much to choose between the two sides so take the 3.25 on offer about the draw. Another match that should be close is Stockport v Aldershot. The Hatters have confounded plenty of pre-season expectations by sitting in the top half of the table and last weekend's "smash and grab", in manager Paul Simpson's words, win at Oxford illustrates that it isn't all doom and gloom at Edgeley Park. County are another club with a loan striker making a big impression. George Donnelly, who is scheduled to return to Plymouth in January, has bagged five goals already this season and has the talent to make a big impact at Home Park when he returns to Devon. However, there isn't much else for opposition defences to worry about with Mansour Assoumani the only other man to find the back of the next for Simpson's side during the campaign so far. Aldershot will be looking to stop Donnelly on Saturday as they bid to bounce back from five League Two games without a win. Four of those contests have ended in a draw and, despite being unfortunate not to beat Wycombe in their last outing, this is set to be another weekend when the Shots will have to settle for a point. Bet365 make it 3.30 for the match to finish all square and that is worth an interest. PICKS:
