English Npower League 2 Preview: Week 11
Wycombe have started to storm up the table in recent weeks and now they make the trip to Burton on Saturday.
Boss Gary Waddock was delighted with the 2-0 victory at Colchester in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in midweek but he will be well aware that high standards need to be maintained in the league with his side currently sitting in the final play-off spot. Burton sit one point behind the Chairboys in the standings with many teams already joining them in the midst of what will be a congested battle for a top-seven finish. The Brewers are also in decent form with only one defeat in their previous six league games but they have failed to make real progress up the table with three draws in that run. Wycombe are draw specialists away from Adams Park so far this season with four league games out of five finishing all-square so that gives us a pointer as to what to expect on Saturday. Both Burton and Wycombe are good sides and will be involved in the promotion battle during the course of the campaign so expect a tight match with the draw offering decent value at 3,25. Northampton haven't enjoyed quite the start to the league season they hoped for but there is no doubt that Carling Cup success has given the Cobblers the chance to bask in the national media spotlight. Manager Ian Sampson rightly praised his side for their penalty shoot-out victory at Liverpool but he knows that much more is required if his men are to impress in the league. "It's not been a great league start. We've been fantastic in the cups but like everyone says, it's all about your bread and butter and that's the league and it needs to be better," he told the Northampton Chronicle this week. Cheltenham is the destination for the Cobblers on Saturday and the Robins will be buoyed by last weekend's 2-0 win at Aldershot heading into this game. Town chief Mark Yates has his side comfortably in mid-table and he will be pleased that they have gathered some momentum after a very difficult 2009/10 season. Sampson has Northampton geed up for the weekend but they will still find it tough to overcome an improved Cheltenham. They should do better than the 2-0 defeat at Macclesfield last weekend so take the 3.25 with Bet365 for the Cobblers to leave Gloucestershire with a point. PICKS:
