Peter Reid has been left puzzled by Plymouth's home form so far this season but the Pilgrims can go some way towards putting things right with victory over Charlton on Saturday.

Argyle have only managed one victory in five attempts at Home Park and Reid could hardly disguise his dismay as they went down to a late goal against struggling Hartlepool last weekend, intimating that he was dealing a cultural problem developed over the past couple of seasons.

However, the former Sunderland and Manchester City boss has usually enjoyed a solid home record at most of his previous clubs, so it might be too early to jump to any hasty conclusions in respect of how the figures will pan out as the season wears on.

Prior to their defeat against the Teessiders, Plymouth had played host to the two teams currently occupying the top two positions in the table.

Brighton and Peterborough might have been operating beneath the radar at the time of their respective trips to Devon, but now few would deny they've set the highest standards to date and Hills should probably have taken that into consideration before dismissing the hosts as 2.50 shots.

As we've been keen to make clear on numerous occasions already this term, we no longer rank Charlton in the same category of genuine top-two contenders.

The Addicks will always be a solid and respectable outfit for as long as Phil Parkinson remains at the helm but a raft of summer departures have left them bereft of the match-winning quality required to push for automatic promotion.

The Londoners have been well beaten on trips to Huddersfield and Brentford, which combined with a late defeat at Exeter and a nondescript stalemate at Tranmere makes for a pretty weak away record, so the price on the Pilgrims is big enough to warrant an interest.

Meanwhile, it might also be worth taking a chance on improving Notts County at 3.75 for their trip to Carlisle.

The Magpies looked a little timid when losing successive matches by three clear goals at the beginning of the campaign but a rapidly declining disciplinary record offers some indication of how manager Craig Short has toughened them up.

A stunning 3-2 victory at high-flying Peterborough in their last away game was marred by a mass brawl at the final whistle but now the standard has been set and County will look big if they can recreate a similar level of performance.

Carlisle aren't a team to be taken lightly, particularly at home, but the loss of skipper Ian Harte to Reading appears to be gradually taking its toll on confidence and the Cumbrians have now failed to trouble the scoreboard in four of their last five league matches.
