Edmonton will be looking to secure their third victory tonight as they host San Jose. The Oilers lost for the third time in five games when they were defeated 4-2 by Minnesota Wild in their last home game.

Colorado Avalanche vs Los Angeles Kings

The Avalanche have started new season very well, but I think their form will go downwards and there won't be any playoffs for Colorado this season. The hosts aren't as good as the Canucks and the Flames. On the other side, there are plenty of young players trying to make a name for themselves. On the ice the Avs have at least four very good rookies: Matt Duchene, Chris Stewart, David Jones and T.J. Galiardi. The goalie Craig Anderson finally has his chance to definitely prove that he can be a No. 1 goaltender in the NHL.

On the other side, the Los Angeles Kings had been methodically building their roster for several years. Last season they signed Stanley Cup champion Rob Scuderi, one of the most prominent defensemen on the market, and veteran Ryan Smyth. The visitors have high expectations for themselves this year and that is to qualify for the playoff.  But  forward Anze Kopitar must at least show that he is on the way to becoming recognized as a legitimate, number one center across the league. The Kings will also need young goaltender Jonathan Quick to show that he was not just a flash in the pan last season.

  • I think the best pick here is under 5,5 goals.

Edmonton Oilers vs San Jose Sharks

Edmonton will be looking to secure their third victory tonight as they host San Jose. The Oilers lost for the third time in five games when they were defeted 4-2 by Minnesota Wild in their last home game. They must continue to find chemistry in the lines and help the team win. The young talent of Sam Gagner, Jordan Eberle, Magnus Paajarvi and Andrew Cogliano will continue to develop with the help of veterans. But the roster is wafer thin and the Western Conference is too tough.  The Oilers are actually in the last place on the West.

The Sharks won the President's Trophy in the season 2008/2009 but failed in the playoff. Last season they were first in the Western Conference and first in the Pacific Division. But after that San Jose lost to Chicago Blackhawks in four games in the Conference finals. They just need to find another motivation when the games matter more. I think the Sharks have one of the best forward lines in NHL. There are players like Thornton, Marleau, Heatley, Setoguchi, Pavelski and Clowe. In goal, a new contract with goaltender  Niemi could be the key to the
entire season. The Sharks will be very dangerous in the powerplays once again.

  • They Oilers will be highly motivated against the strong Sharks team, but the visitors will win.
