Champions League: Round 5 (Tuesday)
Arsenal know a Champions League victory at Braga on Tuesday night will guarantee them a place in the knockout stages of the Champions League for another season.
But perhaps more importantly it will give the shellshocked Gunners an almost immediate opportunity to atone for their extraordinary 3-2 home loss to Spurs in the north London derby on Saturday. Arsene Wenger's side were 2-0 ahead at the break and seemingly coasting to victory and top spot in the Premier League table, but they unravelled after the break to allow their bitter rivals a famous - and rare - victory on Arsenal soil. It was a dramatic capitulation, but maybe not altogether surprising given that it was the Gunners' third home defeat of the campaign. Europe still seems to suit their players much more than the bedlam of an afternoon in England's top flight, with more time on the ball and in general a much less physical approach. They beat the Portuguese side 6-0 at the Emirates and even though Robin van Persie and Andrey Arshavin are both set to be rested and defender Gael Clichy has a back problem, we still expect Arsenal to win with plenty to spare. Braga have picked up two wins in the group, but both came at the expense of a struggling Partizan Belgrade who currently prop up Group H so it would seem to suggest they are a little out of their depth against Arsenal and Shakhtar Donetsk who look nailed on to go through. Striker Nicklas Bendtner returns after a groin problem and looks good value to get the first goal at a widely available 8.00 at Bwin, while Theo Walcott - who scored last time out in Donetsk - has appeal at 3.60 to score anytime. Chelsea will also secure their spot in the next stage of the competition if they see off Group F whipping boys MSK Zilina. The Slovakian side have suffered a turbulent debut in the group stages, conceding 15 goals in four matches which includes home losses to the Blues (4-1) and to French side Marseille last time out as they crashed 7-0. Having said that, things are hardly rosy for the defending Premier League champions who have been forced to deny that boss Carlo Ancelotti was on the verge of leaving the club. A 1-0 defeat at Birmingham on Saturday made it three defeats in four for the Blues and even though several youngsters are set to be blooded by the Londoners, losing to Zilina would represent one of the biggest shocks in the competition. Expect the Blues to win at a canter and Ashley Cole to be on the scoresheet looks a cracking punt at 6.50. PICKS:
