Wycombe's promotion bid is back on track with the 4-1 win over Burton in midweek ending the discontent that followed a run of three defeats in a row.

Gary Waddock's side have moved up to second and they have been cut in the promotion market with Coral going in from 8/13 to 1/2 that Wanderers will make an immediate return to League One after relegation last season.

Waddock was clearly delighted after the big win over the Brewers and he has complete faith in his squad.

He said: "We lost the three games last week and when you look back on them we didn't play that badly, but here we wanted to put it right and all credit to them.

"We sensed it earlier that they were ready for it. Sometimes you don't have to say much. But we knew they would respond because they are an excellent group of players and they put it right."

Next up is a clash at improving Macclesfield and another strong display is needed to keep up the momentum in what is a congested battle for automatic promotion and the play-off slots.

Leaders Chesterfield are in a very strong position with a nine-point lead over Wycombe but after that it gets tight with seven points separating the Chairboys in second and Southend in ninth.

That means plenty of sides will be fancying their chances in the scramble for success and the next few weeks are going to be vital as the final third of the campaign gets interesting.

At the other end of the table, Macclesfield have eased their relegation fears with vital wins against Morecambe and Stockport in their last two games.

The bookies seem to think the Silkmen are safe with bet365 going 12/1 for the Cheshire side to exit the Football League - Stockport and Barnet are market leaders at 1/5 (bet365) and 2/9 (general) respectively.

Macclesfield are unbeaten in four games but they haven't faced a side from outside the bottom eight in that run and before that they suffered two convincing defeats against promotion chasers Bury and Southend.

Gary Simpson has taken Macc away from trouble but they will find Wycombe a big step up in class and the 2.40 for the away win at Moss Rose on Saturday has to be worth taking.

Betting Suggestion:
Wycombe to beat Macclesfield at 2.40
